ABOUT ME
Joseph Kattou is a multimedia artist, educator and Vejigante maker.
He draws on his Puerto Rican heritage to create works about the island's political movements within the diaspora by exploring the intersection between craft, colonialism and advanced manufacturing.
He travels internationally frequently as a photographer and researcher to learn and exhibit work in diverse environments including Japan and Ireland and create relationships with new collaborators.
He received his BFA in sculpture in 2019 from the State University of New York at New Paltz and was later invited to return for his MFA in Sculpture which he earned in spring of 2023 while working with the university as a lecture series program director, education outreach coordinator and sculpture instructor.
He currently works professionally as an adjunct professor of fine arts and a film and television production artist while pursuing gallery exhibitions, guest lecturing and workshop teaching as part of his expanded practice as artist and activist.
